― Sport to Travis Bickle.

Charles "Sport" Rain is the main antagonist of Martin Scorsese's 1976 psychological crime thriller, Taxi Driver. He is the pimp of 12-year-old, Iris Steensma, who is convinced to stop being a prostitute by taxicab-driver-now-vigilante, Travis Bickle.

He was portrayed by Harvey Keitel, who also played J.R. in Who's That Knocking at My Door, Charlie Cappa in Mean Streets, Ben Eberhardt in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Judas Iscariot in The Last Temptation of Christ and Angelo Bruno in The Irishman.

Biography[]

It is unknown when, but at some point during Charles' life, he lead a gang of pimps and drug dealers in New York City. In order to evade cops, Charles went under the name of Matthew Higgins, but went by the nickname, Sport. Some time during 1976, Sport met a 12-year-old girl named Iris Steensma, who ran away from home, and employed her as a child prostitute and starts molesting her.

During one night, Iris and Sport get into an argument. Iris attempts to run away from Sport by driving off in a taxi. This fails, however, as Sport pulls her out of the car and bribes the driver to forget about the incident with a crumpled up $20 bill. However, the cab driver, Travis Bickle, doesn't forget about the incident and instead meets up with Sport in order to save Iris. This becomes Travis' main motivation after Sport tells Travis that Iris is 12-years-old.

Despite, Iris' wishes to escape, Sport calms her down and manipulates her into have sex with him. A few days later, Travis meets up with Sport once again and shoots Sport in the stomach. This results in a shootout in Sport's Brothel, where Sport gets back up from his injuries and shoots Travis, but is killed after Travis murders him.

Personality[]

Despite, acting like an easy-going, calm, nice man, in reality, Sport has no redeeming qualities. He rapes an innocent young girl multiple times for his own pleasure and has no problem with what he does. He is able to manipulate people by his calm demeanor and soothing promises, such as when he tells Iris that he loves her more than anything in order to have sex with her, despite the fact that Sport is merely exploiting her likeness to his customers.
